Ventnor Calling
Stories, Art and Heritage from a 1936 K6 Telephone Kiosk
A small telephone box with a big community story
Welcome to Ventnor Calling.
We're a community project caring for an adopted BT telephone box in the heart of Ventnor, on the Isle of Wight. What was once a place for making calls is now a place for bringing people together.
Our aim is simple: to look after this familiar local landmark and give it a new purpose for the community. Whether you're a resident, a visitor or simply curious about the project, we're glad you're here.

Ventnor Telephone Exchange
Meet the women who kept Ventnor connected before dialling became automatic. Discover their stories, memories and the people behind the switchboard.

The Story of our K6 Telephone Box
From Sir Giles Gilbert Scott's iconic design to its place in Ventnor, explore the history of Britain's most recognisable telephone kiosk.
Stories, Art & Heritage
The kiosk's story is still being written. Discover future exhibitions, local history, community artwork and creative projects as they become part of Ventnor Calling.

Past Futures
Part of:
Ventnor Calling is part of Past Futures – A People's History of the Isle of Wight.
Alongside restoring our adopted telephone kiosk, we're helping preserve the stories of the people behind Ventnor's telephone network—from those who used the kiosks to the engineers and the 'Hello Girls' who worked at the town's telephone exchange until it closed in 1971 as the Island's last manual exchange.
