Inside the Kiosk

The Ventnor Calling kiosk is more than a restored telephone box. It's a small exhibition space where local history, creativity and community come together.

Throughout the year we'll be sharing changing displays, artwork, memories and creative projects inspired by Ventnor and the people who call it home. Every exhibition will tell a different story, so there's always something new to discover.

Our First Exhibition

To coincide with the Ventnor Fringe Festival, we're delighted to launch our first exhibition inside the kiosk.

This inaugural display celebrates the history of Ventnor's telephone network and the people who kept the town connected before the digital age. Discover the story of our 1936 K6 telephone box, meet Ventnor's famous Hello Girls, read memories from former engineers and exchange operators, and explore the evolution of Britain's iconic telephone kiosks.

The exhibition also looks beyond the kiosk itself, featuring the Carron Company that manufactured it, other public call boxes that once served Ventnor, and personal recollections that bring this remarkable period of local history to life.

This is the first chapter of Ventnor Calling, with many more stories, exhibitions and creative installations still to come.

Could You Be Part of the Story?

Ventnor Calling is about more than preserving a telephone kiosk—it's about creating new connections through history, creativity and community.

We're always interested in hearing from people with ideas. Whether you're an artist, local historian, photographer, writer, craftsperson, performer or community group, we'd love to explore ways of working together.

The kiosk may be small, but it's a space with big possibilities.

If you have an idea that celebrates Ventnor, its people or its heritage, we'd love to start a conversation.
